The team enjoyed warm weather for the first time this spring while at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Powhatan, Virginia. We spent a week with our good friend, Tom Alvis, and his dear people. Leaving early on March 13th for a very long drive (700+ miles) to Indianapolis, Indiana, began our 6 week series of meetings in the Midwest.

Our first week began at Trinity Baptist Church in Westfield, Indiana, where the team has held a number of meetings in the past. Their current pastor, Mike Thomas, was the former youth pastor at Community Baptist Church in South Bend, Indiana. A couple highlights from the week were the continued faithfulness of the church people each evening, as well as the seven teenagers who accepted Christ as their Savior after the teen Cola War.

The second week began with a short drive up to South Bend, Indiana and Community Baptist Church. We have ministered in this church on a number of occasions, but this was the first time to be with their new pastor, Dr. Dave Pennington. I believe the Lord gave us a fruitful week, for it is easy to feed hungry souls! Thursday’s teen Cola War night saw eleven teens trust Christ as their Savior, as well as one college student the following evening. I put a strong emphasis that week on the spiritual atmosphere of a revived church. The messages were intentional to help nurture one who is filled with the Spirit and enjoys the atmosphere of brotherly love. I enjoyed being with Dave and his fine church staff. Also that week, my wife, Terry, flew out to Denver for a cancer treatment. She has a report on the website that gives a current update of health status.

We drove on Saturday April 27th to Shannon, Illinois to begin a week with Pastor Tim Lehman at Shannon Baptist Church. This is a wonderful ministry out in the cornfields of central Illinois. We had a short week of meetings which ran only through Wednesday. It was very encouraging to see such a positive response to the Gospel each night that week. The teen Cola War outreach was encouraging as the team was able to invite almost every teen in the community.  In all there were 25 salvation decisions.

I finished the week early Thursday morning with a two hour drive to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport to catch a flight to Greenville, SC for a board meeting at Bob Jones University.
